About the WEWSA

The West of England Wine and Spirit Association

The West of England Wine and Spirit Association was formed in 1966 as one of the regional associations of the Wine and Spirit Trade Association. Our role is to provide high quality wine education in our local area and fun learning opportunities for all members in the form of tastings and tours to winegrowing regions. We represent our local trade members’ views to our parent association and keep our members up to date with important wine industry news. We also raise funds for the Wine and Spirit Trades’ Benevolent Society for those who have been employed in the trade and are in unfortunate circumstances.

We currently have approximately 150 members. The Committee is made up from the membership and meets quarterly. Once a year in February all members are invited to the Annual General Meeting and Annual Luncheon.

During the rest of the year members can enjoy a series of wine tastings and dinners. A wine tour is organized each year, alternating long-haul and short-haul destinations. These tours are particularly good value and great fun!

Charitable activities

We support the Wine & Spirit Trades’ Benevolent Society to raise funds for those employed in or retired from the trade who are in unfortunate circumstances. The Wine and Spirit Trades’ Benevolent Society was founded in 1886 and has over 500 beneficiaries in the U.K. Help is provided to any person (or their partner) who has worked in the Drinks industry: shops, pubs, breweries, distilleries, warehouses or offices, for more than five years and now needs help. Old, young, retired, ill, disabled, the Benevolent may provide one off or regular financial grants, sheltered accommodation, care home facilities, advice, support and friendship. Help is given to some people in their own homes and also for residents on two estates, at Eastbourne in Sussex and Chorley in Lancashire
