March 5th 2012 : WSTA activities

Bob Rishworth from the national Association reported at our AGM on the
many and varied activities that they undertake. They have now expanded to
take on the work of the Gin and Vodka Association, which will give them a
stronger lobbying position with the government. Social responsibility has
become the key point of focus and the short debate we had at the AGM on
the increasing media coverage of the health effects of alcohol, showed the
depth of feeling felt by many members.

March 5th 2012 : The Benevolent.

Paul Newman, the new Chief Executive of The Benevolent, reported that they
are helping approximately 500 people a year and giving assistance worth
£330,000. In the south-west approximately £70,000 has gone in support
people. The Benevolent aim to double the number of people they are helping
by 2015 so if you do know anyone who needs assistance and has worked at
some point in the wine and spirits trade, however small, do please put
them in touch with The Benevolent as they may be able to help. Our raffle
and Guess the Port competition raised £1500 for Benevolent funds.
